Strengthening Islamic Education in Southeast Asia: Nur Academic Founder Leads Training in Collaboration With Hamad Bin Khalifa University

Dr Aboubakary Sereme, founder of Nur Academic, joined leading scholars from Qatar and Thailand in a special training workshop focused on developing effective methods for teaching Arabic and Islamic Studies to non native speakers. The program highlighted practical, respectful, and culturally grounded teaching strategies.

Nur Academic Participates in International Arabic Language Training Program

Nur Academic continues to expand its contribution to global Islamic education by taking part in a professional training workshop for Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers in Southern Thailand. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar, Kalamullah Al Qur’an School, Multilingual School Pattani, and Crescent International School Bangkok.

The training provided teachers with practical guidance on teaching Arabic and Islamic principles to non native speakers, with a focus on communication, character development, and real world application.

Leadership and Expertise

Among the distinguished contributors was Dr Aboubakary Sereme, founder of Nur Academic and Head of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Kalamullah International School in Bangkok. Dr Aboubakary Sereme led sessions on how to teach the Arabic language for communication and how to link language learning with understanding Islamic sciences in a meaningful and accessible way.

His teaching approach integrates clarity, patience, cultural empathy, and structured learning progress. He emphasized that students learn best when lessons are interactive and connected to real life situations rather than limited to memorization alone.

Key Speakers and Collaborators

The keynote address of the program was delivered by Mr Soontorn Piyawason, President of The Foundation for Quranic Education.

Additional instruction was provided by:

  • Dr Muhammad Mahmoud Al Jamal from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, who offered advanced guidance in Islamic pedagogy
  • Dr Abdul Qadir Abd al Ka’bah from Prince of Songkla University, who discussed Arabic language in the context of community and identity
  • Dr Adam Bamba also from Prince of Songkla University, who focused on applied teaching models for non native speakers

The involvement of multiple institutions shows a growing commitment to strengthening Arabic and Islamic learning across Southeast Asia.
