Dr. Aboubakary Sereme Publishes New Research on Islam, Peaceful Coexistence, and Religious Pluralism

We are proud to announce that Nur Academic founder, Dr. Aboubakary Sereme, has published a new peer reviewed research article in Cogent Arts & Humanities. Written alongside Assistant Professor Muhammad Roflee Waehama and Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulai M. Kaba, the paper explores how Islamic teachings promote justice, peaceful coexistence, and religious pluralism while challenging extremist interpretations. This important publication reflects Nur Academic’s commitment to authentic Islamic scholarship that addresses contemporary issues.

Our founder, Dr. Aboubakary Sereme, has recently published a new peer reviewed research article in the international journal Cogent Arts & Humanities. The paper was written in collaboration with Assistant Professor Muhammad Roflee Waehama, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at Prince of Songkla University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulai M. Kaba, a respected scholar in Islamic Studies, Psychology, and Education.

About the Research

The article explores an important Islamic concept known as Al Walāʾ wa al Barāʾ, often translated as loyalty and disavowal. While this concept has long been part of Islamic scholarship, the research examines how it has sometimes been misunderstood or misused by extremist groups in modern times.

Using the principles of Maqasid al Shariah, the higher objectives of Islamic law, the authors explain that Islam promotes justice, mercy, human dignity, and peaceful coexistence. The paper argues that extremist interpretations do not reflect the broader objectives and ethical teachings of Islam. Instead, it encourages a deeper understanding rooted in the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the example of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Why This Matters

In today’s diverse world, Muslims often live and work alongside people of different faiths and backgrounds. This research helps clarify how Islamic teachings support respectful relationships, civic responsibility, and peaceful cooperation while remaining faithful to Islamic principles.

The study also revisits the Constitution of Madinah, showing how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ established a society built upon justice, mutual respect, and shared responsibility between different communities. This serves as a powerful example of how Islamic values encourage harmony rather than division.

A Commitment to Authentic Islamic Knowledge

At Nur Academic, we believe that authentic Islamic education should not only preserve traditional knowledge but also help Muslims understand how timeless Islamic principles apply to today’s world.

Dr. Sereme’s latest publication reflects this commitment by combining classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary research to address important issues facing Muslim communities around the world.

We congratulate Dr. Aboubakary Sereme and his fellow researchers on this significant achievement and pray that Allah accepts this work, benefits the Ummah through it, and grants continued success in serving the pursuit of authentic Islamic knowledge.
